Chapter 12: Girl Power – finding a talent and following a dream

Bilqis who arrived from Yemen in 2005 and Nimo, aged fifteen, who arrived from Somaliland, in 2009.

Both Bilqis and Nimo, despite arriving in their mid-teens and speaking no English, have followed their dreams. Bilqis gained a degree in media at Ravensbourne and is working as a film editor. Nimo gained a degree in business studies and wanted to become a member of parliament, work for the UN or set up a chain of supermarkets in Somaliland. She now works in health and social care. Both have now married.
